Establishment of the RRI Panel

Inspiring and anchoring trust in science, research and innovation is the key general goal of the IANUS project. For this reason, IANUS is devoted to promoting Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). According to Rene von Schomberg, RRI is a transparent, interactive process by which societal actors and innovators become mutually responsive to each other with a view on the (ethical) acceptability, sustainability and societal desirability of the innovation process and its marketable products.

IANUS is strengthened by an External Advisory Board (EAB), established in the first quarter of the project and serving the project in the form of an RRI Panel. The Board consists of six high-ranking experts in the wider field of science-policy and communication, as well as RRI; the IANUS EAB includes current members of national parliaments in the EU, CEOs of think tanks and directors and heads of academic departments and Schools.

During the first two meetings, the EAB provided valuable feedback concerning the project’s focus and approach, challenged the project team through some questions and suggestions, and indicated a number of past projects and initiatives that would be relevant to the work of IANUS, as well as current and planned future projects that could provide excellent opportunities for collaborations and mutual strengthening of outcomes and results.
