About the Project
The IANUS project strengthens warranted trust in science, research, and innovation at a systemic level by encouraging participation in research as a co-creative and inclusive process, sensitive to societal values, concerns, and needs.
Contemporary knowledge societies are facing multiple global challenges, which have become more intense by a climate of distrust and erosion of trust: in representative bodies and governmental organizations, in media and public information, but also in science.
Therefore, the trustworthiness of science is a vital issue. In order to restore a trusting relationship between science and society, they must be brought closer together. However, to achieve this, it is necessary to look at both sides, considering both the scientific and the societal pole of the trust relationship.
Trust in science and science-based innovation is never a given, nor should it be.
Objectives
Enable societal stakeholders to distinguish valid from non-valid trust, healthy from unreasonable distrust
Enable societal stakeholders to deal with the uncertain, incomplete, and multiple viewpoints that accompany scientific knowledge
Enable researchers to foster trust in science, making research inclusive, transparent and able to respond to societal needs and concerns
Enable researchers to conduct relevant and meaningful research beyond their own interests, preferences, and ideological biases
